Accommodation

Sunday: An early morning departure as we travel northwards to Scotland and to Oban where we stay overnight at the Royal Hotel with dinner, bed and breakfast.

Monday: Following breakfast we continue our journey northwards along the shores of Loch Linnhe and Loch Lochy to Invergarry where we turn westwards to the Kyle of Lochalsh. We cross the Skye Bridge on to the Isle of Skye and continue to the northwest coast of the island to the port of Uig. Here we board the 18.00hrs Caledonian McBrayne ferry crossing to Lochmaddy on the Isle of Benbecula arriving at 19.45hrs. (dinner vouchers included on board). Disembark and continue to the Dark Island Hotel arriving at approx 20.30hrs. We stay here for two nights with, bed & breakfast and an evening meal on the second night only.

Tuesday: A day to rest and relax and to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Benbecula, known as the “Islands of Fords”. Benbecula is like a stepping stone between North & South Uist, linked by causeways to both of its larger
neighbours. Though diminutive in size, this is actually the main administration centre of the southern part of the
Outer Hebrides and is home to regional amenities such as the airport, college and golf course. There is a good
choice of tourist facilities including shops and cafes whilst a stroll along one of the many secluded beaches gives
you a real get away from it all experience with some fantastic photographic opportunities.

Wednesday: Today we travel northwards for a spot of island hopping! From Benbecula we head first across North Uist to Berneray and from here we board the 13.30hrs ferry that crosses The Sound of Harris to the Isle of Harris. (sailing time approx. 1 hour). On arrival in the little port of Leverburgh we continue northwards via the link road and on to the Isle of Lewis, driving past some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the whole of the UK. A highlight of today’s journey is a visit to the Isle of Scalpay to admire its lovely waterfront villages. Our final
destination is Stornoway, the capital of Lewis and a delightful town which offers traditional amenities and a
harbour quite often filled with common seals! We stay at the Caladh Inn Hotel, Stornoway for two nights with
dinner, bed and breakfast.

Thursday: Today we enjoy a scenic tour viewing some fantastic scenery. Lewis is the largest and most populous of the Western Isles yet it remains uncrowded and unspoilt. Home to some of the most important seabird colonies in the UK, the Isle of Lewis is a haven to all forms of wildlife. History and heritage is there to be discovered too and the island bursts with archaeological sites. Our circular tour takes us to visit Carloway Broch, an ancient Iron Age fortification dating back over 2000 years and we also visit the Calanais Visitor Centre where we will view the Standing Stones, one of the best preserved Megalithic sites in the whole of Scotland. Later we step back in time by visiting Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, a typical crofting township of the 19th century.

Friday: Enjoy a relaxing morning in Stornoway with a last minute chance to snap up a bargain in one of the Harris Tweed shops. We then board the 13.50 ferry sailing to Ullapool on the Scottish mainland which arrives at
16.35hrs. From Ullapool we travel southwards to Newtonmore where we stay overnight at the Highlander
hotel with dinner, bed and breakfast.

Saturday: After breakfast we commence the homeward journey.
