Longleat House & Safari Park

Fantastic Fireworks

Longleat House is widely regarded as one of the best examples of high Elizabethan architecture in Britain and one of the most
beautiful stately homes open to the public. Substantially completed by 1580 and today is home to the 7th Marquess of Bath, the house is set within 900 acres of magnificent “ Capability Brown” landscaped parkland with a further 8000 acres of woodland, lakes and farmland. The house contains many treasures; paintings by Tintoretto and Wootton, exquisite Flemish tapestries, fine French furniture and elaborate painted ceilings.

In 1966 Longleat caused a revolution in the world of zoological collections by becoming the first location outside Africa to open a drive through Safari Park. Despite the understandable concern of the local people with regard to the introduction of lions to Wiltshire, the Safari Park concept has become a huge success and some 50 years later this unique way of showing animals in their natural surroundings still delights and amazes hundreds of thousands of visitors to Longleat each year. Apart from the ancestral home, Longleat has a wonderland of attractions to suit all ages; discover lions and tigers, monkeys and giraffes living within the magnificent Safari parkland setting; get lost in the world’s longest hedge maze or voyage on safari boats! The Longleat passport ticket which is included in the holiday cost allows visitors to enjoy several of the amazing attractions including the Safari Park, Longleat House, Grounds and Gardens, Pets Corner, Longleat Railway, Safari Boats and Longleat Hedge Maze.

This short break is based in Street, the famous Somerset town long associated with the production of footwear and where the famous Clarks company established its factory in 1825. Today the company still has its headquarters in the town and although shoe production has long since moved overseas, Street is now home to the Clarks Shopping Village which attracts millions of visitors each year. The town is also famous for its Millfield School, popular with sportsmen and women.
