Teifi Valley, Cardigan, Tenby & St. Davids

National Wool Museum & Pembrokeshire National Park

Step into a gentler pace of life, discover beautiful beaches, secluded coves, stunning wildlife and breathtaking scenery of West Wales. Cardigan is set on the estuary of the River Teifi and is a very special place to visit and enjoy. It’s unspoilt townscape and rich heritage provides a nostalgic backdrop to a thriving contemporary culture of arts, festivals and events. Today Cardigan offers a special visitor experience and is ideally located to explore the fabulous land and seascapes of the Teifi Valley and Cardigan Bay.

The Cliff Hotel is situated on the coast, in a secluded location, approx. three miles from Cardigan town centre. The hotel enjoys spectacular views over the sea, river estuary and Cardigan Island. Each of the 70 bedrooms has en-suite bathroom, satellite TV, telephone, hair dryer and tea/coffee makers. Enjoy a relaxing drink in the bar and take in the views before enjoying dinner in the ground floor restaurant. The hotel has a leisure suite with hydro-pool, steam room, Jacuzzi and gym. There is a lift and the hotel has a limited number of ground floor bedrooms.

Monday: Travel via Bala, Dyfi Valley, Aberystwyth and Aberaeron to Cardigan arriving late afternoon.

Tuesday: After a leisurely breakfast the coach will transfer you into Cardigan town for the morning. This afternoon we travel to Newcastle Emlyn and visit the National Wool Museum which is situated in the picturesque village of Dre-fach Felindre in the Teifi Valley. The area was once the centre of a thriving woollen industry earning itself the nickname, “the Huddersfield of Wales”. Shirts, shawls, blankets, socks and stockings were all made here and sold across the world. Located in the former Cambrian Mills, the Museum tells the story of the industry and admission is entirely free!

Wednesday: Today we head southwards and visit Tenby which is an appealing resort, unspoilt by commercialism and it retains its natural seaside charm, especially along its narrow streets which lead down to the pretty harbour. The town’s attractions include four fabulous beaches, Norman Castle ruins, shops, cafés galore, even a museum and art gallery. Nearby lies Caldy Island with its monastery, Saundersfoot
with its sheltered harbour and Pembroke Castle, the oldest castle in West Wales and birthplace of Henry VII.

Thursday: Following breakfast we travel along the coastal road via Fishguard to St. Davids, the famous tiny Cathedral city for sightseeing. Situated on the far south west coast of Wales and within the Pembrokeshire National Park, St. Davids is surrounded by spectacular coastal scenery. The Cathedral has been the dominant presence since the 12th century and was a popular pilgrimage destination throughout the Middle Ages and to this day it still attracts thousands of visitors every year. Adjacent to the Cathedral stand the magnificent ruins of the medieval Bishop’s Palace.

Friday: Following breakfast we bid farewell to Cardigan and travel northwards and make a coffee stop in Aberaeron before continuing via Aberystwyth and heading eastwards to Welshpool where we stop for lunch. We continue homewards via Oswestry and Wrexham.
