Nottingham, Lincoln & The Peak District

The 4* Belfry Hotel

Nottinghamshire is a picturesque county of forests, farms and villages and steeped in the legends of Robin Hood and the great oaks of Sherwood forest. The growth of the ancient city of Nottingham was influenced by the Saxons, Danes and the Normans, but it was the industrial revolution that made it a thriving commercial centre, most famous for its fine lace making and its prosperity was also aided by the natural highway provided by the River Trent.

Today the city boasts many fine buildings including the 18th century Shire Hall, the partly medieval, “ Trip to Jerusalem Inn” together with a wealth of Georgian domestic architecture. The city’s Natural History Museum is situated in Walton Hall, a 16th century building that stands close to the University campus. Lincoln has past and present all around; from cobbled streets to modern art and there is plenty to interest the visitor. The historic heart of the city lies within the Bailgate area where you will find the magnificent triple-towered Cathedral and Lincoln Castle, built by William the Conqueror.
