Ivy Bush Royal Hotel, Carmarthen
Once the favoured retreat of Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton, this historic hotel is located on the outskirts of Carmarthen, just a 10 minute walk to the town centre, and in a great location for touring. All 70 bedrooms are simply furnished in a traditional style and equipped with a TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. There is an informal restaurant, a traditional, cosy, pub-style bar, a comfortable lounge with large armchairs and sofas, and an outside terrace. Please note, there is a lift to all floors, but there are steps to some rooms from the lift. There is also a sauna and gym.

Mon - This morning we depart the local area and make our way to The Red Kite Feeding Centre, where visitors may sit in the specially built hide only feet away from diving birds and observe them competing naturally for the food provided by the feeding centre. We then continue onto our hotel for our evening meal.

Tue - Today we visit the National Botanic Garden of Wales, a beautiful mix of modern and historic gardens and woodland trails set in the idyllic Carmarthenshire countryside. Take a journey through six Mediterranean climate zones to view some of the world’s most endangered plants in the garden’s centrepiece, the world’s largest single-span glasshouse. Admire the vast array of exotic plants in the Tropical House, wonder at the fabulous displays at the British Bird of Prey Centre and discover the lakes, ponds and an inspiring range of themed gardens, including a Japanese Garden, Bog Garden and Apothecary’s Garden.

Wed - In the morning, explore legendary Carmarthen, the oldest town in Wales where Merlin was said to have been born. Then spend the afternoon exploring the quintessential seaside town of Tenby, whose narrow streets wind down from the medieval centre to the picturesque harbour, framed by pastel painted cottages. Wander through the charming cobbled streets and take time out to watch the world go by from a quaint café or relax with an ice cream on one of Tenby’s glorious golden sandy beaches.

Thu - We spend this morning at Aberglasney Gardens, spectacularly set in the scenic Tywi Valley and one of the RHS top

ten formal gardens to visit. This peaceful paradise offers over twenty different garden styles, from formal to exotic through to woodland and meadows, with a wealth of rare and unusual plants to discover. Highlights include a restored Elizabethan cloister garden and award-winning indoor garden. In the afternoon we enjoy a nostalgic round trip on the lovingly restored Gwili Steam Railway. Boarding at Bronwydd Arms station, we wind our way alongside the river through the beautiful Gwili Valley to Danycoed Halt.

Fri - After breakfast we depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey making a stop en-route.
